Another Block From Vita Coming - Suprinity
Coming fresh from the IDS- the dental industry's largest trade show, the cerecdoctors.com Mentors (well 60 of them and their spouses anyways) had a chance to see some upcoming products and materials that will hit the shelves soon.
Vita showed off its follow up to Enamic, Suprinity. This is a zirconia reinforced lithium disilicate block. Supposedly it will be available in two different iterations- one a pre-crystallized form that will reach about 200 mpa and another that will need to be fired in an oven for about 13 minutes that will be roughly 450-500 mpa in strength. We will see what the final version ends up being but certainly the stronger version is strong enough that it does not need to be bonded. If it is close to 500 mpa in strength, then for sure I think it will be strong enough for bridges in the posterior- full contour. This certainly looks to be another nice tool in the tool belt of the CEREC user. The scheduled release date for this material will be later this year - Vita says in the fall. As I get more information, I will blog about it and when the material gets closer to release, Ill have a full video on how it works.Does Vita have a new firing cycle for this? The current cycle is 32 minutes for the pre-crystallized form.
Difficult product to work with, we have had it in Canada for a while! In its pre-crystalized form , its translucent, it looks cool! , but a pain to adjust and polish! The crystalization cycle is little more than 30min ! When it comes out of the oven, its dark brown and as it cools, it gets to the shade. We tried about 8 crowns and used their HT block and they all looked like Emax LT blocks and actually less aesthetic! So a lot of work for a minor improvement in strenght over E-max!
To quote a famous line from the movie Risky Business "eMax, there is no substitute". Or was it Porsche? I forget.
