This appears to be the name of the new upcoming block by Vita. Vita Enamic. A google search revealed this European press release about the new material. My sources on the ground tell me that this block will be released in the near future. There may even be a picture or two floating around and of course as soon as I get my hands on some blocks, I will post some information.
VITA ENAMIC – the first hybrid dental ceramic in the world VITA Zahnfabrik have created a new generation in ceramic materials: VITA ENAMIC is the first hybrid dental ceramic in the world with a dual- network structure that combines the best of what ceramic and composite materials have to offer. The CAD/CAM blocks are not only suitable for fabricating conventional inlays, onlays, veneers and crowns for anterior and posterior applications, but they can also be used for minimally-invasive restorations such as non-prep veneers and for restorations in areas where space is limited. VITA ENAMIC will be available from January 2013. In VITA ENAMIC, the dominant ceramic network structure and the reinforcing polymer network structure are merged fully with one another. Thanks to this dual ceramic-polymer network, the new composite incorporates the benefits of ceramic and composite materials in one outstanding product. Materials science testing shows that as well as offering immense strength, VITA ENAMIC also ensures extraordinary levels of elasticity, even going so far as to include integrated crackprevention. This new class of materials offers significantly less brittleness than a pure dental ceramic as well as abrasion behavior superior to that of conventional composite materials. As a result, it provides characteristics equivalent to those of natural dentition. Due to its high strength, VITA ENAMIC is extremely resistant to the shear and compressive forces of the stomatognathic system, allowing the material to be used for a variety of applications. Patients consider the oral comfort of VITA ENAMIC restorations to be excellent. In the first phase, VITA ENAMIC will be available in block size EM-14 (12 x 14 x 18 mm), as well as in the shades 0M1, 1M1, 1M2, 2M2 and 3M2 in two degrees of translucency. This innovative hybrid ceramic can be processed using the Sirona CEREC and inLab systems, with construction carried out in the usual fashion. In comparison with pure ceramics, milling can be completed more quickly and with less tool wear. It is also highly reliable and offers greater precision, improved edge stability and, as a result, finer, more accurate results than are possible with conventional dental ceramics. And with the corresponding polishing set from VITA, the material can also be quickly polished. Glazing using light polymerization is also an option. Characterization can be performed using light-curing stains. The excellent light refraction properties of VITA ENAMIC provide a highly esthetic overall result with a natural play of colors. The hybrid ceramic is already at full strength and can be used directly following milling and does not require further processing. We would appreciate a sample copy of any reprints.
