What CEREC Can't Do?

A doctor at a CEREC event recently asked the following question “ What can’t Cerec do?”

For the longest time we were locked into thinking we could only do single units, both partial and full coverage. We were limited by the capabilities of the hardware and the software. Redcam did a great job with these restorations allowing us to deliver precision fitting restorations.  Although we were limited to just a handful of materials we could get great looking restorations by spending some time using our lab skills such as doing a cut back. These materials did a good job and have lasted for years and years.

Even with the introduction of the Bluecam we had greater capabilities but we were still stuck in the mindset of single units for the most part. We started to get more support from our material partners, material for better strength and esthetics but we still fell short when we wanted to expand the range of Cerec. Sure we could do implant restorations but that would be by spending a lot of money for a custom abutment or using ingenuity to create solutions with a stock abutment.

Now that we have the Omnicam which allows use to break free of the shackles of the past. Clear aligner therapy from a digital scan is now a reality. Nightgaurds are being fabricated by Dreamgard with fantastic precision, all from an intraoral omni scan.

The introduction of the scanpost and 4.2 software removed the need for an implant level impression for the CEREC dentist, with the techniques we learned in Scottsdale workshops, we can have custom abutments made with Zirconia and soon e.Max.

The e.max 32 block allows us to view cases in a new light, solved before with CEREC connect, now can be accomplished in the office very easily in one visit.

So what is the hardest question from people? Its not “what Cerec can do?”

It is trying to find an answer to “What Cerec can’t do?”
