So you are doing an abutment in the anterior area for a patient with the CEREC and the proposal that you get looks like what you see below. A poor emergence profile with improper cervical contours.
Instead of moaning and groaning that you will now have to spend hours designing the cervical emergence of your proposal, with a simple click you can actually get a proposal that is 1000% better than what you see above. Instead of dealing with an improper cervical emergence, by unclicking the “Use Gingiva Mask” button during the model phase, you get the proposal below. A huge improvement with minimal manual work required.
What is happening above is that when the “Use Gingiva Mask” button is checked as you see below, the software looks at your Gingiva Mask scan and tries to make the proposal fit within the confines of the soft tissue. If your soft tissue is not ideal, you get a poor cervical profile.
By not using the Gingiva Mask, the software ignores the contour of the soft tissue and gives you an “ideal” proposal, one that ignores a poor soft tissue implant contour.
Essentially a good rule of thumb in the anterior is not to use the Gingiva Mask for anterior proposals but only reserve it for posteriors. And if you get a poor proposal in the posterior, have the software give you a new proposal without using the mask.
